Meryl Streep, often hailed as the greatest actress of her generation, was born on June 22, 1949, in Summit, New Jersey. She studied drama at Vassar College and Yale School of Drama, where she developed a passion for theater. Her career took off in the 1970s with standout stage performances before she made her film debut in Julia (1977). Her big break came a year later with The Deer Hunter, which earned her an Oscar nomination. Streep quickly became known for her extraordinary ability to adopt any accent and transform herself into diverse characters, making her a director’s dream and a master of the craft.

Throughout her prolific career, Meryl Streep has been nominated for a record number of Academy Awards — 21 times — and has won three: for Kramer vs. Kramer (1979), Sophie's Choice (1982), and The Iron Lady (2011).
